when you’re a writer
the kind with hundreds and thousands
and millions of followers (not me obviously),
when everything you put out
will be read and re-read
when you’re not only writing
for yourself but for the living and the dead
please try to be mindful of what you said
because people will believe your stories
they will follow your steps, your guidance
to climb out of the shallow water
to hold onto the edge of a cliff
when all their fingers are swollen and numb
to reach out their hands to you
waiting for one day to be found.
So please, please try to write from the heart
not for the number of talk shows
you’ll make with each quote.
