I’ve tried to squeeze

myself a little smaller

cut the parts you didn’t like

tried to fit into your vessel

be good, be patient

be quiet, be obedient.

now that I break free

it takes time

to grow back the branches

that were “unnecessary”

the flowers that grow on cacti

the parts that once were mine.
